Skill development training concluded

The skill development training programme in rubber plantation sector conducted as a part of Pradhan Mantri Koushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) has been concluded. The programme was organized by the Rubber Board, in collaboration with the Rubber Skill Development Council (RSDC). The valedictory function was inaugurated by Dr. James Jacob, Director- Research, Rubber Research Institute of India (RRII) at the Silver Jubilee Hall of RRII. He said that, skill development programmes in agriculture sector needs to be more organized and target specific. The training programs as formulated by RSDC would definitely benefit the sector, he added. He also lauded the role played by Rubber Producers’ Societies (RPSs) in arranging the training programs. Mr. Vinod Simon, Chairman, RSDC delivered the key note address. Filling the skill gap is what the industry needs at present and the course is conducted as per the National Occupational Standards (NOS), Mr. Simon said. RSDC is also planning to conduct Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) programme among workers in plantation sector, he added.

A total number of 165 trainees participated in the 30-day skill development training programme, conducted at seven centres across Kerala. Those who have successfully completed the training would be rewarded with Rs.7,500 each, apart from the certificate from Government of India. The money would be credited to each trainee’s account through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). It is worth mentioning that all the candidates appeared for the assessment have been qualified for the reward.

NSDC is formed with an objective to improve the skills of labourers in different sectors and also to impart training to youth so as to develop a trained workforce. RSDC is formed as a part of this, for skill development in rubber sector. Apart from formulating training programmes in rubber good manufacturing sector, plantation sector has also been included in RSDC’s training programmes. Out of the forty different job roles identified, thirty two have been approved by NSDC.

Mr. V. Mohanan (Jt. Rubber Production Commissioner ) presided over the function. Mrs. P.Sudha ( Director, Rubber Training Institute)., Mrs. Saramma Mathews (Jt. Rubber Production Commissioner) Mr. M.G. Sathees Chandran Nair (Deputy Director, Publicity and Public Relations), Mr. Babu Joseph (President, Pallickathode RPS) and Mr. K.O.Joseph (President, Poonjar RPS) offered felicitations. Ms. Sreelakshmi Anoop and Ms. Rajeena Joseph spoke on behalf of trainees. Mrs. K.P Remadevi (Jt. Rubber Production Commissioner) welcomed the gathering and Mr. K.H. Jacob (Development Officer) proposed a vote of thanks. Certificates were distributed to the successful candidates in the function.
