India Rubber Meet begins on 4 March at Kochi

Dr. G. Madhavan Nair, Former Chairman of ISRO and Chairman, Centre for Management Development will inaugurate the ‘India Rubber Meet 2015 (IRM 2015), at Le Meridien Convention Centre, Kochi on 04 March 2015. The two day event will be held on 04 and 05 March 2015. IRM is a yearly event organized by the Rubber Board in partnership with stakeholder associations in rubber and related sectors. The Meet is a major initiative of Indian rubber industry to organise a regular forum for interaction, networking and exchange of information.

The theme of IRM 2015 is ‘Finite resources: infinite opportunities’ and will cover the commercial opportunities of rubber including auxiliary activities. It is also proposed to examine the green agenda referring new sustainability goals. There will be invited talks by internationally renowned speakers, and panel discussions on topics such as economic and commodity outlook, sustainability, rubber futurology, technology and innovation. Speakers include Dr. John Baffes (Senior Economist, Development Prospects Group, World Bank), Mr. Frank Grothaus (Consultant, UNCTAD, Geneva), Mr. Charu Kapoor (Principal, TATA Strategic Management Group, Mumbai), Datuk Dr. Salmiah Ahmad (Director-General, Malaysian Rubber Board), Mr. Shashank Tripathi, (Executive Director, Pricewaterhouse Coopers India), Dr. Stephen V. Evans (Secretary-General, International Rubber Study Group, Singapore), Datuk Dr. Abdul Aziz S.A. Kadir (Secretary-General, International Rubber Research and Development Board, Malaysia), Ms. Sheela Thomas (Secretary-General, Association of Natural Rubber Producing Countries, Malaysia), Dr. Stuart Cook (Director of Research, Tun Abdul Razak Research Centre, U.K.), Mr. Gunther Lottmann (Manager, Grupo Agroindustrial de Occidente, Guatemala), Mr. Hla Myint (Advisor, Myanmar Rubber Planters & Producers Association) and Mr. N-Diaye Oumar (Director, Department Cultures d’ Exportation et Productions Forestieres, Abidjan, Cote d’ Ivoire).

Panel discussions will be chaired by Dr. A Jayathilak IAS (Chairman, Rubber Board, India) and Dr. A.K. Krishnakumar (Executive Director, Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services, New Delhi). Experts and key stakeholders from different segments of rubber industry across the world will participate in the panel discussions. Meetings of stakeholder associations also will be conducted on the sidelines of the Meet.

The launching edition of India Rubber Meet (IRM 2014) was also held at Le Meridien Convention Centre, Kochi, Kerala in February 2014. Nearly 700 delegates from both India and abroad attended the event. IRM 2014 was well appreciated by delegates and speakers as a world class event in terms of content, structure, ambience and networking facilities.

A national level Organising Committee headed by Dr. A. Jayathilak (Chairman, Rubber Board) and Mr. Vinod T. Simon (Chairman, Rubber Skill Development Council) as the Vice-Chairman is overseeing IRM 2015. The Committee has representations from all rubber industry related stakeholder associations, major companies and media. IRM 2015 is expected to bring the rubber fraternity of the country under a single umbrella to take stock of emerging trends in raw material production, processing, trading, end product manufacture, export etc. The meet will also analyse the current economic scenario and focus on the future of rubber industry from a global perspective.
