Dr. James Jacob elected Chairman of IRRDB

Dr. James Jacob, Director, Rubber Research Institute of India (RRII), Rubber Board, has been elected as the Chairman of International Rubber Research and Development Board (IRRDB) for a two year period in the Annual meeting of IRRDB held at Manila.
Dr. James Jacob has been Vice Chairman of IRRDB for the past five years. He had also served as the Liaison Officer of Physiology Specialist Group of IRRDB. He has been serving as the Director of RRII for the past eight years. A graduate in Agriculture, he has a PhD in Plant Physiology from University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore and another PhD in Biochemistry from Imperial College, London. Before joining RRII, he had worked with the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center in the US.
IRRDB is an international organisation of scientists working on all aspects of R&D of natural rubber and its products. Members of IRRDB are institutes or other agencies concerned with the R&D of rubber. This was formed in 1958 and it had its head quarters in UK which was shifted to Malaysia a decade back. It is for the first time that India is getting Chairmanship of IRRDB.
Research organisations working in all natural rubber growing countries in Asia (India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, China, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Philippines, Laos) , Africa (Cot'e d'Ivore, Nigeria, Cameroon), South America (Guatemala, Brazil )are its members. CIRAD, the research agency in France which undertakes research on tropical crops species throughout the world is also a member of IRRDB. Association of growers and processors, plantation companies and nurseries are given associate membership.
