The Rubber Research Institute of India (RRII) will host two international workshops under the auspices of International Rubber Research and Development Board (IRRDB) from 2 to 7 June 2014 at Kottayam. The workshops will be on two subjects, ‘International Rubber Health Clinic’ and ‘Multilateral Clone Exchange’. IRRDB is an international organization for natural rubber research, head quartered at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
RRII has developed an online rubber clinic for quick and effective disease diagnosis and advisory services. The web-based clinic has attracted many researchers and planters worldwide. IRRDB proposes to study and evaluate the feasibility and modalities for developing an International Rubber Health Clinic for addressing pests and disease problems of natural rubber in the member countries. The workshop is scheduled from 2 to 4 June 2014. Invited lectures on the latest developments in ICT based technologies for agriculture are also included in the workshop.
The matters related to the exchange of promising planting materials will be discussed in the second workshop scheduled from 5 to 7 June 2014. RRII has developed some of the most productive clones in the world. More than 200 promising clones in the pipeline are also at various stages of evaluation. Performance of clones under different agro-climatic conditions in the member countries, unique features and traits of different clones that are proposed to be exchanged, utilization of wild germplasm of Hevea etc. will be discussed in the workshop. The workshops will have representatives from the areas of rubber research, development, extension, policy making etc.
