Production of NR to reach the anticipated level
Kottayam, March 2017
Production of NR in the Country during the fiscal is expected to exceed the anticipated 6.54 lakh tonne. Rubber Board statistics show that production in the current fiscal from April 2016 to February 2017 has already reached 622,000 tonne. This is 17.58 per cent more than the production during the same period last year, which was 529,000 tonnes. Intermittent showers received in most of the rubber growing areas and relative improvement in price of rubber may result in fairly good production in the current month also. Production during the month of February 2017 shows an increase of 54 per cent as compared to that during the same month last year. Production during February 2017 is 57,000 tonnes whereas it was 37,000 tonnes in February 2016.
There was a decreasing trend in the production of NR for the last few years owing to untapped holdings, climate change and shortage of tappers. Board has taken various measures at field level, including mass contact programmes to improve production and productivity. Ten thousand tappers were trained under the skill development programmes under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana.
