Scientists of Rubber Research Institute of India (RRII) bagged coveted national and international awards. Mr. B. Predeep, Scientist A, (Remote Sensing) received Young Scientist Award of the International Rubber Research and Development Board (IRRDB) for the year 2016. The award was given for his contributions on application of satellite based imaging and geospatial technology towards mapping rubber plantations in India. As a recipient of this award, he was invited to deliver atalk on ‘Near real –time detection of occurrence of drought stress in natural rubber plantations using MODIS terra satellite data’ at the International Rubber Conference 2016 held recently in Cambodia. This is the first time this award has been given to India.
Dr. C. Bindu Roy, Senior Scientist (Crop Protection) was awarded the R.L. Narasimha Swami Memorial Award of the Indian Society of Plantation Crops during the National Symposium on Plantation crops held at CPCRI, Kasaragod for the paper titled ‘Construction of a high density genetic linkage map using SNP and silicoDArT markers and QTL mapping for disease resistance in rubber’. The paper highlighted on identifying genetic markers to detect quantitative trait loci (QTL) significantly associated with disease resistance traits, which are quantitative in nature and determined by many genes and gene complexes. She is also the recipient of Guman Devi Memorial Best Woman Scientist Award.
