Skill development training in rubber tapping
Kottayam, 08 November 2016
The Rubber Board in association with Rubber Producers Societies is organizing training programmes for skill development among tappers from November 2016. The duration of each programme will be for three days. The programme is conducted as a part of ‘Pradhan Mantri Kausal Vikas Yojana’ (PMKVY), for the skill development in small rubber holders’ sector. Rubber tappers and rubber growers who do tapping in their own holdings and in the age group of 18 to 55 can participate in the programme. The Rubber Board is implementing the scheme with the active cooperation of National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and Rubber Skill Development Council. A stipend of Rs.500/- (Rupees five hundred only) and certificate from NSDC will be given to those who successfully complete the training programme.
One of the main reasons for decreasing yield in the traditional rubber growing areas is unscientific tapping. Even though it is possible to get an yield up to 3000 kilogram per hectare in the holdings where high yielding clones are cultivated, the yield realized in many holdings is below 1000 kilogram. The Rubber Board has initiated skill development programmes with an objective to increase productivity and profitability of rubber.
