Upward trend in rubber production continues
Kottayam, 26 October 2016
The Rubber Board informed that increasing trend in rubber production in the country continues and the production of natural rubber (NR) during the month of September 2016 shows an increase of 20 per cent as compared to the production during the same period last year. Production of NR during September 2016 is 60,000 tonnes whereas it was 50,000 tonnes during September 2015.
Consumption of NR during the period also increased, by 3.6 per cent, to 84,500 tonnes in September 2016 as compared to 81,600 tonnes in September 2015. The increasing trend in production of NR is noticed from the month of May 2016 onwards.
There was a decreasing trend in the production of NR for the last few years. Untapped holdings, climate change and shortage of tappers were the reason for this. A steady increase in production noticed now may be the result of the initiatives taken by the Board. Integrated efforts are being undertaken by the Board through Rubber Producersí Societies (RPSs) and Board Companies at regional office level and field office level to improve production and productivity.
