Quality improvement of planting materials essential for productivity enhancement:Rubber Board Chairman
Kottayam, 28 September 2016

In the changing scenario, in order to make rubber cultivation remunerative, production need to be increased and quality of planting material is an important factor in determining the productivity, said Chairman, Rubber Board. He was launching a scheme for registration of rubber nurseries and certification of planting materials in a function held at Rubber Research Institute of India. Initially registration and certification of planting materials will be given to the rubber nurseries who voluntarily apply for it. He also urged that the cooperation from rubber nursery owners and rubber growers are essential for the success of the scheme. Success of this scheme is important in increasing production, productivity and profitability from rubber cultivation.

Chairman handed over a document describing the standards of quality planting materials to Mr. Jose Mathew, rubber nursery owner and a pioneer in this field. The first application for nursery certification has been submitted to the Chairman by Mr. KT Augustin, rubber nursery owner.

Mr. V. Mohanan, Jt. Rubber Production Commissioner presided over the function. He said that certification would help the officers to identify genuine nurseries for recommendation. Mr. Binny Mathew (President, Aimcombu Rubber Producers’ Society) and Mr. Josekutty Antony (Secretary, All Kerala Nursery Owners’ Association) spoke on the occasion. Mr. VC Jose (Jt. Rubber Production Commissioner) welcomed the gathering and Ms. PV Claramma (Dy. Rubber Production Commissioner) proposed a vote of thanks
