What is the reason for occurrence of TPD even in untapped trees?

It was hypothesised that the genetic distance between the rootstock and scion can lead to a genetic incompatibility which may prevail a physiological stress in some budded trees. Such incompatibility can induce stress-related disorders even in untapped trees.
