| Ethylene is an important plant hormone causing senescene in the tissues. The bark tissues of TPD affected trees are generally produce high levels of ethylene while wounding. Cyanide is a byproduct during ethylene biosynthesis, which seems to accumulate in the TPD affected bark tissue. An enhanced cyanide resistant respiration of the bark tissue was also noticed during TPD. Altogether the hyperactivity of ethylene and the accumulation of its byproducts in the tissue may cause oxidative stress and eventually leading to TPD. |
